Overeating is a habit that entails immense harm. It occurs when an individual consumes more calories in relation to the energy that is expended via physical activity or expelled via excretion. It has not only worldly harms, but also religious harms. Excess of anything is prohibited in all religions. Eating and drinking for pleasure is not seen as sinful, eating or drinking to excess beyond reason is a sin. As a deadly sin, gluttony is believed to spur other sins and further immoral behaviour. Overeating is an excess of limits, due to which a person finds himself in trouble everywhere. Overeating not only damages human health and causes diseases, but it also causes secular and social harms. Overeating not only makes it difficult for a person to walk or sit, it also slows down the mind. It also causes strife, corruption and inflation in society.
