Abstract

This study examines the unique and unparalleled qualities granted to specific Companions by the Prophet Muhammad distinctions that were not shared by the general Ummah nor found among other Ṣaḥābah. Focusing on Khuzaymah ibn Thābit al-Anṣārī, Salamah ibn Ṣakhr al-Bayāḍī, and Abū Burdah ibn Niyār, the research highlights how each Companion received a ruling or privilege of exceptional character. Khuzaymah’s testimony being counted as equal to that of two men represents a singular judicial honor in the early Islamic legal framework. Salamah’s unusual and highly specific case of ẓihār illustrates a personalized application of legal principles, reflecting the Prophet’s sensitivity to individual circumstances. Likewise, Abū Burdah’s acceptance of a one-year-old goat as uḍḥiyah—declared valid for him alone—shows a prophetic concession that carried no general applicability. Together, these examples demonstrate how certain rulings were issued as khawāṣṣ al-ṣaḥābah—unique distinctions limited to individuals. Such exceptional cases enrich our understanding of prophetic judgment, legal flexibility, and the role of personalized rulings within the broader framework of early Islamic law.
